How do I know if my televisions are equipped with a digital tuner?
I know this must be a common question, but I've looked at the http://www.dvtanswers.com and http://www.dtv2009.gov, and those sites really didn't answer my questions. I looked at both of my user manuals and I just don't know what looking for as far as a digital tuner, since whatever it is, isn't listed clearly in the manuals. Both of my tv's were purchased two years ago. One is a Memorex (details about tv at: http://www.memorexelectronics.com/html/product_detail.php?PID=189&FID=10&SID=2&opento=1009# ), and the other is an Emerson (details about tv at: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=4217276&sourceid=15672805930387610905#Specifications ). How can I tell if these tv's have a digital tuner?
Oh yeah - I don't have cable or satellite - use the old rabbit ears
The links have the exact model
Neither of your TVs has a digital tuner.
The digital tuners used in North America are "ATSC" tuners. If your TVs had these tuners, you would see something about an ATSC tuner or some description of digital TV reception in the TV's specs.
In your case, the descriptions refer only to "NTSC" and "181 channel" tuners. These are terms for analog TV tuners. Also the LCD TV says it is "HD Ready"; "HD Ready" TVs never have digital tuners (it's a confusing marketing term).
[Note: Digital TVs include analog tuners for backwards compatibility.]
If you get TV with an antenna, you will need a converter box (or a recorder with an ATSC tuner built in to it ) for each analog TV.
